LucasArts shuts down

As I'm sure many have heard, Disney decided to shut down LucasArts earlier this month. Disney acquired the developer in October last year, when it bought LucasFilm, and initially declared LucasArts would continue with business as usual. However, current projects like Star Wars: 1313 were soon put on hold and rumours of a shutdown began circulating. On April 3, Disney confirmed that LucasArts would cease all game development, thereby putting all ongoing games on hold. Future Star Wars games, as well as other franchises owned by LucasArts will be developed by Disney Interactive Studios or other third-party developers (Cnet.com).

It was indeed a sad day for the gamers, like myself, who grew up playing games such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion. This news came after Disney announced the "winding down" of the animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars and all these changes has fans worried about the future of their beloved franchise.

Star Wars: 1313 would have told the story of bounty hunter Boba Fett

Personally I'm most disappointed about Star Wars: 1313 being cancelled. This third-person action adventure would put the player in the shoes of Boba Fett, legendary bounty hunter and licensed bad-ass. Although we got to see some more of his backstory in Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones, there's still so much mystery surrounding him and I would've loved to play through his story. As mentioned above Disney will license some of its games to other developers so there's still a slim chance of 1313 being published, but at this stage it's unlikely.
