FIFA 14

EA Sports announced FIFA 14 will hit the shelves later this year. So far it has been confirmed for PS3, XBOX360 and PC, with more platforms to be announced in the next few months. Packed with new features, the latest game in the series will attempt to improve on the formula that made FIFA 13 so successful.

FIFA 14 will see the introduction of momentum on the players. This new feature means the players won't be able to instantly change direction without difficulty. New animations will show players shifting weight from side to side and even throwing their arms out to maintain balance.

Complete Dribbling, introduced in FIFA 13, will receive an overhaul to make dribbling more spectacular and effective. This will mean the ball won't be glued to the players feet and a poor touch could lead to losing possession. Shielding the ball is now set to L2/LT, making it easier to use and although this may not be a big change from previous games the improvement of the feature should see it being used more often. The success of dribbling and shielding will be determined by ball control skills and strength/size, respectively.

Obviously EA couldn't just improve attacking so FIFA 14 will also include better defending. The AI is smarter and defenders will work together more cohesively, boxing in players to stop the easy passes, cutting off runs and generally understanding the game better.

Possibly the most exciting thing about FIFA 14 is the change in shooting. The physics have been altered and for the first time we'll experience the ball behaving unpredictably as it charges towards its target, making the shots (and long-balls/crosses) more realistic. This, coupled with new types of shots, should make scoring goals a lot more satisfying.

Along with these big changes there will also be a number of smaller ones, such as making scouting easier and improving the user interface. It definitely looks promising and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy.
